Welding TriClad aluminum to steel Welding aluminum to steel with TriClad® Aluminum – steel connection strips.
TriClad bimetallic connection strips or blocks are used to join two different metals together by means of welding. In particular if the two metals to be joined cannot be welded together by means of conventional welding techniques.
TriClad in maritime constructions
TriClad is mainly used in maritime constructions. More and more aluminum is used in shipbuilding to reduce weight. For reasons of cost and durability, not the entire ship will be made of aluminum, but a large part will continue to be made of steel. Aluminum is used to a greater or lesser extent for constructions above the waterline to lower the center of gravity and thus improve the rocking motion.
Applications of TriClad
- Connecting aluminum superstructure to steel decks
- Connecting aluminum decks or bulkheads to the steel hulls
- Mounting all kinds of components such as columns or partition walls, etc. between steel or stainless steel and aluminum
- Mounting steel components to aluminum ship hulls (engine frames)
Various types or combinations are available from stock, such as steel (LRD, A516 Gr.55) with Aluminum alloy 5083 or 5086, stainless steel 316L with aluminum and steel/aluminium with a titanium intermediate layer, which provides extra strength or to attach cryogenic tanks to steel decks. to connect.
