Titanium Grade 2
Commercially pure Titanium Grade 2
Titanium Grade 2 is a commercially pure titanium grade. These are used because of their high corrosion resistance to general corrosion and pitting corrosion in saline or oxidizing acidic solutions. Considerable resistance to mineral acids is also an advantage.
This corrosion resistance is due to the very passive, tight and dense oxide film that is immediately formed on the metal when the metal is exposed to air or an oxidizing environment. This provides titanium with the so-called self-healing effect; large or small damages to the oxide skin are immediately repaired. A condition is that oxygen must be present in the environment.
Titanium Grade 2 is most commonly used because of its favorable mechanical properties.

About Titanium Grade 2
In terms of strength, Titanium Grade 2 is comparable to austenitic stainless steel. This titanium replaces alloys of copper-nickel, stainless steel and nickel without the need for extensive refurbishment. This causes Titanium Grade 2 to be widely used. In fact, perhaps this is the most widely used titanium grade. It is a commercially pure titanium grade with more impurities than Titanium Grade 1. This titanium grade therefore has considerably better mechanical value than Titanium Grade 1. Its weldability is very good and the material is easily deformed.
Titanium Grade 2 is also known as Titanium CP3. Titanium Grade 2 has excellent corrosion resistance in oxidizing media, alkalis, organic acids, organic compounds, aqueous salt solutions and hot gases. This alloy also has adequate corrosion resistance in nitric acids, mildly reducing acids, wet chlorine or bromine gas. Titanium Grade 2 can also be used in seawater applications.
Applications of Titanium Grade 2
Like other titanium grades, Titanium Grade 2 is strong, lightweight and corrosion resistant. This ensures that titanium is widely used. From medicine to aerospace and from the chemical industry to power generation, Titanium Grade 2 can be found everywhere. Titanium is the perfect replacement for heavier and more expensive materials. In many cases, titanium is not just a replacement, but an improvement. In terms of performance and longevity, titanium often surpasses other materials.
