Complete CP systems

Cathodic protection

Do you need help protecting your assets against corrosion? At Merrem & La Porte, we provide complete cathodic protection systems. Our CP experts can collaborate with you to design, supply, and install a system tailored to your needs.

Merrem & la Porte designs and manufactures new cathodic protection systems. Additionally, we offer maintenance services for existing systems.

Cathodic protection is a method used to shield metal from corrosion, preventing it from being affected by oxygen. An element called the anode is placed near the metal to be protected. The anode releases electrons to the metal, creating a protective layer.

Designing and maintaining CP Systems

Our CP department comprises various experts in cathodic protection. Along with ample materials, we possess knowledge of all CP systems. This enables us to assist you in making the best design choices and flawlessly installing the system. Working together, we ensure your structure has a long lifespan with the right system, resulting in minimal maintenance and easy monitoring.

Two types of cathodic protection

Cathodic protection can be implemented in two ways. At Merrem & La Porte, we can assist you with both types of cathodic protection systems. One system utilizes sacrificial or galvanic anodes (commonly used for underground storage tanks and underground steel pipelines), while the other system is based on impressed current.

Galvanic corrosion – Sacrificial method

The metal to be protected is connected to a less noble metal. During this process, the least noble metal dissolves, sacrificing itself to protect the other metal.

Impressed Current

Cathodic protection is also achievable with non-galvanic anodes. By supplying electron flow through a rectifier, the current output can be much greater than that of galvanic anodes, allowing for the protection of larger surfaces.
