Cathodic protection
Research measurements
A research survey is a survey conducted when there is a problem or malfunction in the CP system, or when there is a suspicion of deviation or defect. A research survey identifies the cause and location of the problem or malfunction and provides guidance on how to repair or improve the CP system.
A research survey is important for several reasons:
- It indicates whether the CP system is still functioning properly and adequately protecting the object.
- It determines if there is damage or leakage to the object or coating due to corrosion or other factors.
- It identifies stray currents, defective insulation flanges, short circuits, or interference with other metal structures or electrical installations. This can disrupt or reduce the functionality of the CP system.
- It detects changes in environmental factors such as soil resistance, soil moisture, or chloride concentration, which can affect the required protection current and potential.
