Titanium Grade 5
Titaan Gr.5 (Ti6Al4V)
ASTM Grade 5 is a titanium alloy with 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium (Ti6Al4V). This alloy is characterized by very high strength, reasonable weldability and good corrosion resistance.
Titanium Alloy Gr 5 Ti6Al4V (Ti64) is the most widely used titanium alloy that is also heat treatable. Titanium Grade 5 is high in strength and low in weight. Its high corrosion resistance makes this titanium grade widely applicable. The largest market for Titanium Grade 5 is the aerospace industry. The alloy can be made even stronger by heat treatment. Besides the aerospace industry, this alloy is also used for medical & chemical process equipment, automotive applications and marine applications.

Titanium Grade 5 of Ti64?
Titanium Grade 5 is also known as Ti6Al4V, Ti-6Al-4V or Ti 6-4. This is not to be confused with Ti-6Al-4V-ELI (grade 23). This alloy has a chemical composition of 6% aluminum, 4% vanadium, 0.25% (maximum) iron, 0.2% (maximum) oxygen, and the rest titanium (see table above). Titanium Grade 5 is considerably stronger than commercially pure titanium (grades 1 through 4). Nevertheless, Titanium Grade 5 has the same stiffness and thermal properties as the commercially pure grades. That Titanium Grade 5 is heat-treatable is a major advantage over other titanium grades. Because of its combination of strength, corrosion resistance, weldability and processability, Titanium Grade 5 is very widely used.
Where is Titanium Grade 5 used?
The use of Titanium Grade 5 includes many applications. For example, consider the aerospace industry. Here it is used for the production of airframes and engine components. We also see this titanium grade widely used in the shipping, offshore and power generation industries.
Product description ASTM Grade 5
Due to its high strength and low specific gravity, the material has an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. Titanium grade 5 is widely used in aircraft structures and turbine engines, pressure vessels, fasteners, automotive parts but also as a material for implants and sports equipment. This alloy is weldable with conventional techniques provided the parts to be welded are clean.
