Cathodic protection
Monitoring units
For wireless and remote monitoring and control of CP (Cathodic Protection) systems, Merrem & la Porte offers monitoring units. These devices can wirelessly and remotely measure and record the current and potential of a cathodic protection (CP) system.
To monitor your CP system, we have developed a CP sensor in collaboration with Gemba. This CP sensor can perform basic measurements to monitor and optimize the performance and effectiveness of the CP system. Do you want to know how your CP system is performing? Opt for remote monitoring!
Benefits of remote monitoring
If you have a CP system, we recommend remote monitoring. By monitoring your CP system remotely, you can ensure 24/7 operation without the need for frequent visits by a CP measurement technician. It can happen that a measurement post is knocked over or damaged. With the fall detection feature in the sensor, quick action can be taken if any damage occurs to your CP system.
Measurements with the CP sensor
Monitoring the operation of your CP system is easy with the CP sensor. This sensor allows for various basic measurements:
- Existing potential in DC
- Existing potential in AC
- IR-free potential every 24 hours
Clear dashboard
The data from the monitoring units can be easily viewed via the CP Dashboard. Your installations and their status are displayed on a clear map. This dashboard provides insight into the performance of each installation, showing key data such as:
- Voltage DC
- Voltage Coupon
- Current DC
- Voltage AC
- Current AC
- Fakk detection
- Battery
- Internal temperature
- RSSI
Mobile app
In addition to the clear dashboard, additional support is available through a mobile app. This app allows you to conduct inspections on your CP installation, link new measurement points and sensors to the installation, and report issues during inspection. The app is compatible with iOS and Android devices.
Monitoring unit hardware
Our monitoring units ensure constant monitoring of your CP system's operation. The hardware of these units has the following features:
- Pipe/soil potentials: DC -85 to +85 Volts / AC 0 – 60 Volts RMS
- Coupon current measurements: DC -600 to +600 mA / AC 0 to 0.4 Amp
- Coupon IR-free measurements: 1 x per 24 hours 'off' potential
- Motion sensor: fall notification
- Magnet contact: immediate measurement execution
- Antenna: external
- Connection: 4G LTE-M
LTE-M
The monitoring units utilize LTE-M (Long Term Evolution for Machines) technology. This technology enables low-energy data transmission over long distances between devices and the internet.
Battery usage of monitoring unit
The battery usage of the remote monitoring unit depends, in addition to the ambient temperature, on the number of messages to be sent and received. If you conduct one to two measurements daily, we can guarantee that the battery will last for three years.
