What is cathodic protection? 

Steel is strong, but it bonds with oxygen. The combination of the both can lead to rust. This effect must be excluded with high-quality products. When the potential is sufficiently lowered, the anode reaction of iron to iron ions becomes very slow. The product to be protected becomes cathode.
