These cables are used in the installation of a complete CP (Cathodic Protection) system. This is necessary for both sacrificial anode systems and impressed current systems. Both the anode and cathode have separate cables, which are then connected to a common current point.
Buying cathodic protection cables

- PE/PVC Cables: The PE/PVC cable consists of a conductor insulated with polyethylene (PE) and an outer jacket made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The PE/PVC cable has good resistance to moisture and chemicals. These cables are available as 7-strand or flexible.
- PVC/PVC Cables: A PVC/PVC cable is also used for cathodic protection. The PVC/PVC cable consists of a conductor insulated with PVC and an outer jacket also made of PVC. This cable has good mechanical strength and flexibility but is less resistant to high temperatures.
- XLPE/PVC Cables: Insulated single-core cables with a copper conductor. This cathodic cable is used for protection against electrolytic and galvanic corrosion of objects such as pipelines and other submerged or buried metal structures.

How does cathodic protection work?
Cathodic protection is used to prevent oxidation, and therefore corrosion. When metal oxidizes, metal atoms form a chemical compound with oxygen. Electrons flow from a location with a high electrical potential to a location with a low potential. Cathodic protection works by eliminating the potential difference, preventing electron flow and thus oxidation, and corrosion.
